Lake Coffey Project Background

The Lake Coffey Reservoir Project envisions building a new dam and combining the current Lake Coffey with the adjacent Lake Santis. The resulting lake, fed by three streams, would hold around 30 million gallons of water. A new pump station would be built to move the water from the lake, downhill to the current Town water plant. Lake Coffey is owned by the Town and Lake Santis by the Beech Mountain Resort. The Town and the Resort have entered into a 99 year lease which allows the Town to build the new lake and associated infrastructure.

The Beech Mountain Club also has a preexisting lease with the Resort for the Club to pump water from Lake Santis to irrigate the Club golf course. The Resort also uses Lake Santis for winter snow making. These uses would be protected under this plan and a new pump house would be built to furnish water to the Resort and Club for their preexisting uses. The project also contemplates construction of a fishing pier and associated recreation area around the new lake.
